What is this?
This is a yearly survey to collect data on the the state of AWS and related services. The data collected will be released publicly as a resource for all.
Can't you get usage information programmatically?
Yes, and folks like Datadog already produce the awesome State of Serverless report. However, what you cannot get from pure usage data is the human side - do people actually like using the service? Would they use it again if they had a choice? This project aims to answer these questions.
How long is this going to take?
Most people complete the survey in under 5 minutes.
Is answering every question required?
No, every question of the survey is optional and can be skipped.
Who runs this survey?
The survey is run by Peter Sankauskas with assistance from the amazing AWS community.
Is this affiliated with Amazon Web Services?
No. This survey is in not supported, sponsored or endorsed by AWS. It is unofficial and is entirely community made.
Who should fill out this survey?
If you have used Amazon Web Services in any capacity, this survey is for you.
Why is a Google login required?
To help prevent the data being skewed by multiple responses, the lowest effort thing that came to mind was requiring a Google sign in. Is this a fool-proof way to prevent fraud? Not at all, but it's something. Note that this does not automatically share your email address with the organizer, so your privacy is kept safe.
Are you seriously using a Google Form to collect Amazon information?
The irony is not lost on me, but Google Forms does everything that is required.
When will the results be released?
The survey will run until February 15, 2023, and the survey results will be released shortly afterwards. You may optionally enter your email address to be notified once results are published.
Where did the inspiration for this survey come from?
After using the State of Javascript website many times, I wanted something similar for AWS. After asking around at re:invent 2022, I couldn't find anyone who had put something like this together, so I decided to kick it off.
